Learning how to order at Dutch Bros takes about two minutes, and it makes every visit faster and cheaper. The menu is big, the drink names are playful rather than descriptive, and most of the good stuff happens in the customizations. This guide walks you through each step, from picking a drink to scanning your app for points, so your first (or fiftieth) order comes out exactly how you like it.

How to Order at Dutch Bros: Quick Answer
- Pick a drink type: coffee, Rebel energy drink, tea, lemonade, smoothie or freeze.
- Choose hot, iced or blended.
- Choose a size: small, medium or large.
- Pick your milk (oat, almond and coconut cost nothing extra).
- Adjust sweetness, espresso shots and toppings.
- Scan your Dutch Pass in the app so you earn points.

Step by Step: How to Order at Dutch Bros
1. Pick your drink type
Start with the category, not the name. Dutch Bros sells espresso coffee and signature “Dutch Faves” like the Golden Eagle, Rebel energy drinks, teas, lemonades, smoothies, freezes and kids drinks. If a name sounds fun but tells you nothing (many do), read the description in the app or ask the Broista what is in it. You can browse every category with prices on our full Dutch Bros menu.
2. Choose hot, iced or blended
Most coffee drinks, chai and many Dutch Faves come hot, iced or blended. Rebels are usually ordered iced or blended. If you are not sure, iced is the most popular way to try a new flavor.
3. Choose your size
Dutch Bros uses three sizes, and iced cups are bigger than hot cups:
| Size | Hot | Iced |
|---|---|---|
| Small | 12 oz | 16 oz |
| Medium | 16 oz | 24 oz |
| Large | 20 oz | 32 oz |
One detail many people miss: small and medium espresso drinks usually get two shots, while a large gets four. If a medium tastes too milky to you, order a small or ask for an extra shot. See our Dutch Bros sizes guide for prices by size.
4. Pick your milk
Dutch Bros offers oat, almond and coconut milk at every location, and swapping to a plant-based milk does not cost extra. Breve (half-and-half) makes drinks richer, and protein milk is available for an upcharge. For calories by milk, see our Dutch Bros nutrition facts.
5. Adjust sweetness, shots and toppings
- Sweetness: ask for half sweet or extra sweet. Quarter sweet is usually only available when you order in person, not in the app.
- Sugar-free: many flavors and the Dutch Faves can be made sugar-free. See our sugar-free guide.
- Espresso: add a shot for more caffeine (this costs extra).
- Toppings: standard sprinkles are free, while Soft Top, sweet cream, drizzles, seasonal sprinkles and extra shots add to the price.
6. Scan your Dutch Pass
Before you pay, scan the Dutch Pass in the Dutch Bros app or give your phone number. Without it, the order earns no points. Points expire after 180 days, and you can redeem 250 points for a free medium drink or 325 points for any drink. Our Dutch Pass and app guide explains how to set it up, and the birthday rewards guide covers the free birthday drink.
Drive-Thru, Walk-Up or App: Where to Order
- Drive-thru: the classic way. At busy stands a Broista may walk up to your car and take your order on a tablet while you wait in line.
- Walk-up window: handy if you are on foot, and you can ask questions without holding up cars.
- Order ahead in the app: the app shows more items, customizations and prices than the drive-thru board, and lets you skip the line at stands that offer pickup. Read more in our order ahead guide.
- Delivery: availability depends on your area. See our Dutch Bros delivery guide.
Easy First Orders at Dutch Bros
Not sure what to get? These are simple orders that most first-timers enjoy:
- Iced vanilla latte: familiar, smooth and easy to customize.
- Golden Eagle: vanilla and caramel with breve, one of the best-known Dutch Faves.
- A Rebel: Dutch Bros’ own energy drink. Pick a fruit flavor, iced or blended. Browse flavors on our energy drinks menu.
- Strawberry Horchata Chai: sweet, creamy and spiced. See our Strawberry Horchata Chai guide.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Ordering light ice for a long drive. The ice melts and waters the drink down, so regular ice usually tastes better.
- Driving off without a quick taste. If the milk or flavor is wrong, it is easy to fix while you are still at the window.
- Judging a drink by its name. Names like “Shark Attack” or “Annihilator” describe the vibe, not the ingredients.
- Forgetting to scan your app. Every unscanned order is lost points.
